We are very keen to find out ways in which kea (a protected and endangered native New Zealand parrot species) can be deterred from eating poison cereal baits which are utilised to manage mammalian pest species here in NZ (spread via helicopter aerial drops). We are interested to find a product which repells bird species (particularly kea) but does not repell the target pest species (rats, and possums in particular). Additionally, kea are known to cause damage to human property (particularly rubber sealants around windows, electrical wiring and any soft malleable products such as vehicle seats at skifield areas etc). Could you provide a list of products that may be of use to us. We will also be looking at trialling certain products to ascertain their suitabilty. Would we be able to do this? If we find a product/s that are suitable for use, it has the potential to be used extensively throughout the South Island of New Zealand. Thank you for your time and help.
