Dear sir, We are working on a 250 KW shortwave transmitter working at 5 MHz, 7 MHz, 11 MHz and 17 MHz during 24 hours. The original power supply was 6 thyratrons a nine Henry Choke and nine, 10μF[capacitors connected in parallel.] The voltage of power supply is 12 KV DC , input supply is 9kv three phase star connected. Neutral is being used for half dc voltage We are working on replacement of thyratron tubes and we are able to regulate the power supply from zero to 12 KV DC through thyristors. We have not changed the filter circuit i.e.nine Henry Choke and 90 μF filter capacitors. Our problem is that when we switch off the the commutation/. power supply, while this is working perfectly all right, after a short break of one and two hours when we restart the system, the system will not work, sometimes one leg out of six legs of full wave bridge is found defective, sometimes two legs fully or partially out of action. We feel that this phenomenon occurs due to spikes/transients generated by the capacitor and choke. The full load current of transmitter is 60 Amps at 12 KV DC. Kindly guide us that either we have to change the filter circuit or any other good suggestion we are open to accept any amendments/circuit change.
