Regards, Robert de Lorimier Summary After intravenous fluids have been disconnected from an IV access fitting in a patient’s hand or forearm, the patient may wash or bathe, exposing the IV site to liquids and contaminants. The IV access site must be kept dry and clean to avoid infection. Current practices to protect the IV site include wrapping or taping a plastic bag around the hand or forearm of the patient. Such measures are clumsy, inconvenient, potentially ineffective, and may restrict blood flow. The present product is a loose fitting five-fingered plastic glove that covers the IV access site and seals it from external liquids and other contaminants. Features and Benefits The glove is loose-fitting to make it easy to don and remove without disturbing IV fittings, sutures, or bandages. Manual dexterity is afforded the patient because the glove has five fingers, making it easy to hold objects. An adhesive lining in the cuff of the glove affords a water-tight seal without restricting blood flow to the hand. The adhesive in the cuff is initially covered by a removable strip, and is exposed by pulling the strip off after the glove is donned. The cuff is then simply pressed to the skin to create a seal. The adhesive is of a consistency that is easy and painless to peel when the glove is removed. The glove is economical, light, and disposable.
