We need this information before renewing the surface and then polishing it down to the requisite smoothness. I have a paper (Thickness Measurement of Chromium Layers on Stainless Steel Using the Thermoelectric Method with Magnetic Readout (TEM))from Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal. The paper was co-authored by Michael Hekli of Hartchrom AG, Steinach, Switzerland. Since the paper was published in 2005, the technique may have reached some level of commercialization. I would appreciate having any new information on the measurement technique that you are aware of.
